Week 20: Scouting is on!

So what happened this week? We worked on a number of things at the same time - improving our prototype, continuing to develop the technology, correcting the movie script and user testing. So let's hear a little more in depth!

Technology

We decided to add to the technology of the product a vibration that will appear while the user is making a strong and sharp movement. This has led to differences in the structure of the technology and therefore the stick needs to be changed accordingly. Get a glimpse of how our technology looks like!

User testing

After a period of trying, we finally managed to schedule user tests with the Hanasi Scout Tribe in Tel Aviv! We conducted the tests on ninth-grade students, ages 13-14, boys and girls. The purpose of the test was to test whether they understand the purpose of the product and how to use it. We performed the test on 5 trainees, 3 boys and 2 girls. The test procedure was that we put each and every one of them into a room and explained our scenario: Imagine you are sitting in your room and finishing homework, suddenly, the two sticks light up and invite you to use them, you turn off the light, play the song you like and put the phone in front of you with dedicated app for this. Now, all you have to do is use the sticks the way you think you should use them. We left the room for 30 seconds and then came back and got their impressions from using the product.

Insights

  • We noticed that the girls understood that they had to dance with the product and the boys just played with it with their hands.

  • Most users did not notice any changes in the colors of the LEDs.

  • Anyone who noticed a change in the colors of the LEDs realized that they were signal to him to dance more significantly.

  • Most users have realized that the app shows them a drawing output created through their movements.

  •  We have seen that most users did not feel the vibration.

  • Of the users who did notice the vibration, we understood that it made them dance and symbolized something rhythmic to them.

In light of the tests we have done, we are thinking of changing the meaning of vibration. To increase the users' desire to dance, we think of activating the vibration while the device is not in operation for a long time. Of course we will update everything next week!
